Board of Education Sends Policies out for Public Input - November 25
Gabrielle Brown

The Guilford County Board of Education’s Policy Committee voted to send the following policies out for a 30-day public input period from November 18 to December 18, 2025.

Proposed changes to Policy 3200 Selection of Instructional Materials are required by a change to state law. The law requires that the Board have a policy allowing parents to opt their children out of checking out specific materials from school library media centers. The updated policy would codify current Guilford County Schools (GCS) practices.

Revisions to Policy 3225/4312/7329 Technology Responsible Use also include updated elements required by state law to prohibit the use of wireless communication devices during instructional time.

If approved, Policy 3320 Field Trips would include revisions to reflect requirements of state law related to parental consent for student rooming assignments on overnight field trips. The policy has also been revised to add content regarding non-school-sponsored trips.

The suggested revision of Policy 6125 Administration of Medications to Students covers the Board’s approval of certain emergency medications permitted by law (e.g., epinephrine delivery systems) to be stocked and administered by schools. Additional recommended revisions address student self-carry of over-the-counter medications with parental request and nurse review and approval.

Revisions to Policy 7100 Recruitment and Selection of Personnel are required to reflect a change to state law specifying policy elements related to background checks for contracted bus drivers.

The Board’s Policy Committee recommends Policy 7420 Duties of the Superintendent be repealed due to outdated content that is superseded by Board actions approving the Superintendent's contract.

If approved, Policy 7901 Resignations — Classified would be repealed due to proposed updates to Policy 7900 Resignations — Licensed Personnel, which contain all content related to resignations for all employees.
